no they aren't aggressive to other than their own
but when messed with or when startled they can do much more damage than what an aggressive fish can do
Electric Catfish are territorial with each other (slightly different then aggressive).
Electric Catfish are Apex predators in their tank. If you have something in the tank other then an E-Kitty, you will eventually only have the E-Kitty.
I have had limited success with Clown Plecos and Corydoras surviving for long periods of time with E-Cats.
Even dither fish(s) are at risk. I have even lost Exodon to E-Cats and Exodon are famous for co-habitating with Piranha.
One other contributing element to E-Cats.......they may learn to recognize you as their food source and if you are performing tank cleanings they may come say "Hi" and you may not enjoy it.
Respectfully,
FireMedic.
They work just fine with synodontis species of catfish as syno's are immune to the shock. Search my name under the catfish section and you should be able to find out all you want to know about E cats ~Trent
I had one for about a year, then sold it.It was not aggresive at all but it did zap and kill anything I put in the tank.I had a hollow log he hung out in and would swim around in the evening.

Exact same scenario with mine. I had it in with a Black Belt which it couldn't seem to kill. However, everytime the EC would swim up towards the black belt it would tuck itself into a corner as tight as it could lol
