Whats a good price for one under 2 feet?

Are there any fish that they can be housed with?

Is there a fish a supplier would call an electric eel , but isn't ?

I don't see them for sale often so I can't answer the first question. They're pretty rare in the hobby, but that's probably because there isn't a huge demand for them. I'd say 50 to 200 dollars depending on source and size.

99% of people will say that there is no tankmates the eel will co-habit with. I agree with that 99% and in my opinion if you value the life of another fish you will not attempt the combo. That said, Earl (King-eL) used to keep a couple in his JDM tank. His fish are much more mellow than the norm and many of his combos have never worked for anyone else. So while it can be done, I don't recommend trying.

I think the electric eel is such an iconic fish that no supplier would accidently call another fish by that name.

Iam just curious because I can probably get one for less than $50.

Since I can't house this fish with anything else I wont get one.

Price would be around $80-$150 if under 2 feet. Depends on your location.

If the electric eel is already established in the tank then there is no chance that you can add any other fish as they are very curious fish and will investigate by biting or giving a lil' shock. It will continue to do so till the fish is stress to death.

However my south american lungfish and my former apure jelly catfish were the only fish that the electric eel did not bother.

Here are the old pics. EE were sold as they poop a lot and eat too much like a vacuum. 1 30" EE will eat almost 1lbs of shrimps even with shell on and I got 4 of them. They will get hungry again by the next day even temp was at 76F. The lungfish were removed as they could not compete with the EE aggressive eaters. Lungfish were just too slow when it comes to eating food. EE will even steal the food while the lungfish was chewing on it.

So I recommend no tank mates for EE.

King-el, your fish are awsome.

The electric eel was listed as 15 or 18 us inches. Can't remember which.
