Are they the same variation? Is a Powder Blue Jack just a lighter variation of an Electric Blue or are they different? Perhaps they are like the variations of Flowerhorns, you just don't know what your frys will look like.
Sort of like how when you try to breed Red Texas and only 1 or 2 are Super Red and the rest are just dif darker or lighter variations.

Some EBJD's are lighter blue than others as juveniles, but as they grow and mature they do darken to a brighter bolder blue. Mine changes from dark and bold to pale and more of a power blue by mood. When it wants to spawn, it gets a real intense blue to it.

Not a problem. They're a lot of work, but very beautiful fish and worth the effort. Good food, clean water and less aggressive tank mates or much smaller tank mates and you'll have success.

Same fish different water parameters.

If a lfs is clever they will mess with the water to make ebjds darker or lighter to help sell them of.

Honestly, it depends on tank mates as to how blue they are. I got mine at around 4"s and he was pretty blue, he was in with about 8-9 other EBJD's. He was the most aggressive and nicest looking of the bunch. Now that he's in my tank, when my BGJD male (he's the king of my tank) is out on the prowl and in breed mode, he's light blue. Otherwise he's a darker more intense blue.

While keeping less aggressive tank mates and clean water at a smaller size is key, they often times will hold their own when they reach a good size. Mine is around 7"s.

Pics? I'd love to see some good sized ones.. I could never keep one above 5-6" before it would die for some unknown to me reason.
