Some of these fish do appear more powder Blue, but they are the same fish...
Then you have the small group of people who like to give fancy new names to genetically normal fish with a slightly abnormal look. Obviously they should be ignored.
But chances are... a fish labeled "powder blue Dempsey" is a young Electric Blue Jack Dempsey, as when young they are more of a powdered blue color...
Note: If you ever see me say Blue Dempsey I mean Electric Blue Jack Dempsey... that's just too much typing... but EBJD is not quite enough info for the new memebers trying to follow a conversation... So Blue Dempsey is my balance![]()

Not true... EBJDxEBJD would produce 100% EBJD (however, to my knowledge, no one has gotten viable fry this way). But BGJDxBGJD produces 25% EBJD offspring, and this DOES produce viable offspring. A number of people are going this route to try to improve the genetic make-up of EBJDs by introducing more "normal" or wild-caught genetics into the breeding process.mostlycichlids;3129057; said:Only a BG X EBJD can create a EBJD.
