electronic PH lowering?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you want soft water, then you need an RO unit that physically strips out the metals and minerals that make your water hard. Water softeners don't truly 'soften' your water.

so you're saying that the PH won't change, only how the water "feels"?

Yeah, your ph should remain close to the same. Why do you want to lower the ph anyways?

That's an RO membrane, which goes in a dedicated RO unit. It won't work by itself. They need special housing, pre filtering for particles and chlorine, and high psi to force the water through the membrane.

ahhh.. i see. it's not as simple as a filter.

My PH is 7.8 from the tap... it's not critical i don't think (it's a freshwater tank), but i was curious if there was any easy way to bring it down to 7. I hate to give up any room in my filter to peat granules.

That ph is perfect for pretty much any fish. PH isn't really important either. If you want to create true soft water conditions for certain fish, then you should be worrying about GH (general hardness) and TDS (total dissolved solids). And the only way to change this is with reverse osmosis.

good to know... thanks for the help!

you are suppose to remove those metals from the water before adding it into your tank and not remove them in your tank
