Does anyone know where I could get Eleocharis sp. I need some for my african cichlid tank, id like to find seeds but either full grown or seed would work, I need the one that grows submerged. Please help!

Thanks

Someone with experience with african cichlids might agree, might not, but... as a general statement,

African cichlids don't get along well with plants. They can, however, be kept with crinums sometimes, or anubias. You might have luck with java fern or hornwort. MOSS IS NOT GOOD WITH LARGE HERBIVORES in my experience. It gets pulled all over and chewed, then spat out because of it's bad taste. Makes a mess... If it is already attached to something, then it is fine. If it is not attached on it's own, even the movement of a fish's tail can send it flying all over.

on your original question,
Eleocharis might show up someday in your LFS, there are probably plenty of LFS from where you come from. Check each one in the surrounding area every so often. If you can't find any, you can order some off of aquabid.com.

Some people charge extremely high $$ amounts for it though... up to $40 (for several pots) You could probably find some, if you were well educated in the identification of sedges and reeds. There are several species all over North America, and as far as I know, all of them are emergent or submerged species. ONE surefire way to tell if it is NOT eleocharis, is if it has more than one leaf per plant. Eleocharis doesn't make side shoots at all, at least, not to my knowledge. It does produce runners though.

Look for "flowers" that are kind of like this... if you want seeds. Then, you can come back to the same patch every so often to see if it is in seed.

it goes by dwarf hairgrass google search it, most aquatic plant dealers have it
