I just ordered a 10-12" marbled sleeper, or eleotris picta. I have been trying to locate some good care information and I haven't really found anything. Can anyone help me out by sharing their experience or links.
I've owned a few of these and they are very aggressive in my experience. They even attacked the net when I tried to scoop it out. They will eat anything that fits in their mouth and will accept meaty foods such as smelt and shrimp as well as cut up earthworms. . The ones I had grew fairly quickly and the biggest one I had got to be around a foot long before I got rid of it for beating on some of my other fish. Most of the fish it fought with were also bottom tank dwellers and it didn't mess with any of the mid and top water fish I had so it was most likely being territorial but I always liked these fish and they are fun to own. Good luck.
Thanks stonefish, so you kept them in a community tank, and they seem to be decently aggressive, I am thinking about doing a species only tank with just this fish. Do they have a reasonable personality?
I had one before at 14 inches. I got some good information on this site about the fish. First of all, it will eat anything that could fit into its mouth. And the fish has a very big mouth.
Any links? I havent found anything on this species specifically.
Box just got here, packaged extremely well, I would have liked to have seen a bigger bag/more water used in a bag for a fish of this size, but its alive and acclimating now.
