I am completely lost with elephant nose fish, i've read that they grow anywhere from 4-12 inches and require anywhere from a 29 to a 150 gallon tank. can someone please help me out.

they get 9in. tops all day they LOVE live blackworms and frozen bloodworms they are very nocturnal I'd say a 55g. would do them just fine, I've always kept them solo as far as other elephant trunks go but I've seen them in groups I was always told keep electric fish by singlely with one BGK one elephant nose etc...... their cool with tetras, barbs, NON aggresssive cichlids like geo's, angelfish, bichirs......

just three butterflys about 3 inches long, i was thinking only 1 or 2 elephants since there expensive. a freinds got a 55 with discus and cardinal tetras and is willing to take the elephants when they get too big. I thought it would work because I beleive elephants never leave the bottom and just probe substrate with their trunk for food. the butterflies never bothered my school of black tetras (which I gave away). Theres plenty of rocks and driftwood for cover in both tanks.
