elephant trunk snakes

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm sure somebody somewhere does. I think a couple of people have shown off pictures in here. But they're not readily available, so your best bet is to keep an eye on the kingsnake classifieds and go to reptile shows.

I always see the smaller A. Granulatus around, never the other two species.

The problem is the demand.

You never hear about African egg-eaters and slug-eaters kept in captivity, but people do breed them and keep them for a long time... yet people assume they are not good captives; why? It's because there's not a lot of people keeping them in the first place, so you don't hear about it.

I doubt people keep File Snakes commonly.

theres information on slug and egg eaters on the net and on the forums, just whenever i've heard about people keeping any of the Acrochordidae they haven't done too well... but maybe things have changed.

I wouldn't know either.

All I know about them is some people are successful; other people are not. So who know? I know there was a guy that managed to breed them in Australia, and everyone thought he was full of it.

About the the egg-eaters and slug-eaters... I tried asking a few hobbyists and they were like "Ah, no, I never heard of them being kept in captivity, but since they are African they must not be very good captives if I never heard of them in people's collections." Yet... there is a lot of South African and German sites on them... Whatever.

yeah, we can get a few species and variants of Dasypeltis here. They do well in captivity, you just need to be able to have a good source of eggs, little ones might need finch eggs. I like Dasypeltis atra, nice and black.

I'd like the elephant trunk species to do well, they are really cool snakes.
