First off let me say i got this for my diy overflow made out of pvc and although it works for the most part aka i gotta keep on pulling air in by getting mouth fulls of water lol. its a spring type check valve but anyways a run down of my week. This isn't so anyone can feel bad for me or anything like that just had a lot of stressful stuff go on with my diy overflow and etc...
First i was so excited after getting all my supplies for a diy rubbermaid trickle filter system had parts on order and they were going to be here soon. Well my two specimen boxes and directional tube took 4 days longer than they were suppose to but that wasn't a big deal. Finally all my parts came in and i built a over flow using lee's specimen boxes, and i severely messed stuff up i couldn't get it to siphon and purely the lack of tools made assembling it more work than i wanted. But i did end up making it to the best of my abilities lol and i spent at least a good solid 5+ hours to try to get it to work and yeah that didn't happen.
So i decided to make a pvc overflow and it turned out to work even though i again had problems getting the siphon. None the less i set it all up and got my siphon going did some tweaking and after about 10 minutes it was running strong. So i took a little break and let it run its course and i figured i should go check on it and good thing i did. It has just recently broke the siphon and was about a quarter of an inch from overflowing my tank haha.
and i still don't see a place on my pump to hook an airline to it to automatically start a siphon i am actually thinking it might be on the backside of the pump but i'll have to check that out later. But after all that i ended up getting the siphon to work and i let it run for a good solid 4+ hours last night before i turned it off before i went to bed. i checked on it about every 15-20 minutes at that point and i was finally glad to have it working like it should. although i haven't tested it by unplugging the pump and letting it break the siphon its working good.
oh and it sucked up one of my feeder fish and dumped him into the trickle lol i saw my oscar chase him right into the top piece and i kinda lol'd. none the less i will post pictures of my setup once i mess around with it some more and i will probably post a video, i was just glad that after head loss and everything the flow matched up almost dead on to what my siphon sucks out and it stays at about the same level consistently.
So that pretty much sums it up and i was just glad to have it up and running after putting all the man hours i did to try to get it all to work. \End Rant
