This has now happened twice. First time I got a pair of half inch fry from Jeff Rapps. They were in tank doing well and suddenly see white stringy feces. Started treatment for parasites but they died next day. Got six at an auction along with six rostratum. All 1/4-1/2 inch in size. As the elliotti get near the inch mark they just die off. Just lost the last one as he was getting very colorful. Water parameters are good and diet is varied with allot of vegetable protein. Any ideas?

I would start them on metronidazole infused food the day I got them. Also, stress can be a HUUUUGE precursor to bloat and similar afflications. Thoricthys (other than domestic firemouths) can be sensitive. So can your rostratus. They don't do well with any sort of bullying. Just do whatever you can to eliminate stress.

I bought a 3" male a week ago, no problems yet, but I haven´t look at the poop so.. thanks for the heads up!
Btw.. they have been renamed to thorichtys maculipinnis.
