I just bought a 5" Elongatus Piranha yesterday, he was only fed live, I tried to feed him shrimp and talapia today and he put a piece of talapia in his mouth and then spit it out. So I was wondering if they are like ATF and you have to starve them?

I would just keep feeding. If he put it in his mouth at least he is attracted to it. He will get used to the food after a while. Just give it time to settle.

give him few days to settle down first then you can try to feed him. if he doesn't eat then try again few days later.
depends on individual fish they can go weeks without eating.

Yup, what they said ^

My Sanchezi didn't eat for a week and a half when I first got him. It's okay to skip feeding for a few days, he probably just needs to acclimate to the new environment.
