Hey, I have always heard that Elongatus Piranhas are solo fish, and I've kept mine by that rule of course. I'm not a newb to the piranha world but I knwo the following is a newb question reguarding elongatus piranhas. Is there Possibily a tank mate I could have with it? Reason I ask is the link below say that they are able to be in a social group;

http://www.aquariacentral.com/species/db.cgi?db=fresh&uid=default&ID=0172&view_records=1

I doubt the accuracy of that, but providing that it's a 100 Gallon tank, and I KEEP about 100 feeder guppies in the tank at all times, and he isn't to "CRAZY". Would it be possible if I put another piranha in the tank, maybe a decent sized red belly that they would co-exist? I understand that the piranha temperment is very unpredictable, and in a sense I am answering my own question, but has anyone ever tried to mix this species with anything else?!? All input is welcome.....

those profiles are way out-of-date. i wouldn't advise putting an rbp in with your elong...people have tried things such as exodons/plecos/oscars/etc. with mixed results.

It will be a big time gamble and the other fish will lose. The Elong will kill whatever you put in the trank with it in time. It may not be the minute you put it in the tank, but sooner or later the other fish will die.:eek3:

dont do it the elong will kill the fish ither instantly or it will die from stress

I was able to keep some exodons with my elong but all in all, any fish you mix with a serra is a risk.

i have a buddy who put a pleco in with an elong and they co-existed nicely for about a month, then he woke up one morning to half a pleco...
good luck :)

THATS RIGHT! got him in absolutely fish in cliffton NJ. The prior owner had fed this 7 inch fish krill since it was 2 inches so I took the gamble and he NEVER nipped anyone period. The tank was a 90 gal. and the inhabitants were a 6 inch male fredrickstahli, a rainbow wolf, and a redtail barracuda. This peace went on un-interupted until I intruduced a small 5 inch dorado into the tank which killed the pirahna. SEVERAL MONTHS AGO I TRIED placing a black mask into one of my aggressive community tanks and within several hours at least a dozen of my fish were missing pieces LOL so you never know...SO I GUESS I JUST GOT LUCKY THE FIRST TIME.
