Thanks!

Never had but was always tempted to try one.I think they are a solitary species? There was a few nice ones at Sharkaquarium this past weekend.

Yup, I saw them on Saturday and now have the itch to get one...
It was good to meet you in person, K.

I have had this fish on multiple occasions. The most active piranha besides Geryi that I have owned. They are solitary and and when feeding are movement aggressive so you can get them on silversides and pellets as long as you have a powerhead. They sit mid-level in the tank and swim a lot more then people think. A real nice fish, worth the money and time

Great posts, thanks!!!
"On multiple occasions" sounds like you've either been in the hobby for quite a while, or the fish didn't last long?!

Ive had 2 in the past .... majority of them seem to be pretty aggressive and ive noticed some like to spaz out.... def a solitary fish.... i recomend a 75 for a 6 inch plus.... they tend to swim more then most serras and will need the length and width.. i would def add a decent powerhead as well .... and tight lids

Hi,

I have a little experience with that fish and I'll get two new 5" in 4-5 weeks.
This serrasalmus swims a lot in comparison with other serra. species ans needs a good powerhead ; I use a 1000g/h for a 50" long tank.
The fish is really agressive and fast. It's sometimes hard to feed this species with dead food but it accepts Atherina boyeri without too much difficulties.
''Black mask'' variant is more attractive, in my opinion, than the ''redthroat'' one but both are really nice fishes.
I recommand a 50g for 4-5" fish, 75g for a 6-8" and a 100" for 8"+, always with a large floor surface.

Hope it will help...

Best regards.

I had an Elong and it was a neat experience.
Obviously we all know the temperament of the piranha and it's skittishness, however, when feeding time came, my elong would dart with lightening speed to eat. It was much different from other p's I've kept.
Skittishness was the same; always hid.
Just personal experience.
I would say if you are interested, and they're asking for a fair price, I would definitely recommend it.

I have my elong for about 2.5 years now and can only rave about how aggressive it is. I do not know the TL but it is still roughly a juvie. If I had a chance, I will go back and do it all over again. The elong's tank is located right by the light switch in the living room so when my wife or I try to turn on/off the lights, the elong will strike the top of the tank will some force to be reckoned with.
