ok my star fish is falling apart ive had it for about 3 month and it was very active until about 4 days ago when i did a water change and lowered my salinity from 1.026 to 1.021 and i added some phosphate remover when i did the water change the reason i i went down on the salinity is cuz i was told that it might help with algae i had in my tank and that it would be safe but i guess not so is there anything i could do to save my star its a red spike ive been testing the water and every thing is normal except for the salinity that i dropped it should i raise it

I'd ask you for a species name and a pic but, from my experience with sandsifter stars, once they start coming apart its already to late. Sorry.

Your star fish is probably going to die.

Lowering your salinity is not the way to fix an algae problem...you would be better advised to improve water flow and filtration, do more water changes, and add a better cleaning crew.

Well thanks for helping and I'm pretty upset with the false info that my lfs adviced me to do never again should I take the star out or leave it in there hoping for a mirical I raised the salinity back to where it was before thanks again fleshy

stars are sensitive to water chemistry changes including salinity considering most of their body is actually composed of water i would almost bet yo my next retirement check that your star will not recover but since stranger things have happened i wont say its 100% yor star will die but i will say its 99.999999% chance he wont recover

Sorry adrian. Fancy inverts are usually the last thing to be added...other than fish that might pester them.

ok am i getting my hopes up or what for the past couple of days my star was falling apart
