emergency!!- clown knife eating plant bulb

my clown knife in a rush to eat some feeders grabbed a lily bulb that was a little wider than his body and took it into his mouth. now i fear that it is too big to swallow and to big to spit out! do i just wait? do i open his mouth and foceably remove it?

whew! after killing about 6 goldfish and realizing that he couldnt swallow them with a plant bulb bigger than his head in his mouth. he thrashed about and finaly disloged it. maybe my heart can slow down for a moment now.

Glad your fish is now fine. Although I can't help laughing when you said it ate the plant bulb.
Just relax for awhile and hope it won't happen again.

for future reference I have saved an oscar that did the same thing with a cory cat. soak a bath towel in aquarium water to lay him on, net him out and gently try pulling it out. It is better for the fish to go through a short period of stress than a long one.. I am glad yours is ok though.

thanks for the info. i knew i would have to do something in a few minutes if he didnt get it out himself. thats why i posted quickly. too bad i dont have any mfk'ers around here to call and ask.

When I was working at a pet shop, a woman came in with a fantail goldfish with a rock in it's mouth. She said it had been there for days. I unbent a paperclip, picked up the fish and inserted the paper clip through the gill opening and popped out the rock. It was really easy, fast, and not too much stress to the fish. A good method for future reference.
