Hey guys I have an issue and I need help fast. I have an 18 inch RTC in an outdoor pond. I live in san jose california and winter temperature ranges from 55 F in the morning-75 degrees highest( outside temp). sometimes the high is 65F. My Pond is very big and I dont know if the RTC can survive winter In the pond. If he cant I'm planning on building an acrylic rectangle tunnel with a 500W heater attached to the roof so he can swim in if its too cold. Do you guys think this will help? The side panels will be 10inch(height) x 25 inch( length) and the roof will be 18 inch ( width) x 25 inch ( length). my pond is big about 4000 gallon pond. I need help!

pretty sure it gets colder in san jose during the winters, that wont do much
or even help... best bet is to enclose the pond with a green house and try
to insulate it best as possible to keep ambient temps at least low to mid
70s with a water heating source. i have 4k also and its closed in with a green
house with a electric pool heater attached to a solar generator along with
multiple 800w titanium heaters which does the trick but as anyone can guess
its a pricey investment. this is the best i can say without knowing how the
pond was built as some are built with insulation for situations like this as
mine as i lined it with insulation foam and pads under the liner. best of luck
to you, hope u find something works for you. how about some pictures? : )

My pond isn't insulated. It doesn't have the rubber liner either it's built with cement. I can't do a green house because it's too big. My entire pond is actually a lot bigger than 4000 gallons because it's actually 2 ponds that are connected by a stream/ river. The 4000 gallon pond has a stream that connects to a pond that's 3x+ bigger. The larger pond has kois in it, so I'm using the 4000gallon solely for the rtc.

as long as water is 68 or higher, rtc should be fine. i live in san mateo and keeps my rtc, rtg, pacu and cichlids outside all year long but it's enclosed in greenhouse film though. it helps to paint everything black besides the film black though.

do you have the film right on the water? how did you put the film over? and any recommendations on where to buy the film?
