Hi everyone,

My Flowerhorn had velvet. I had other fish in the tank that got cured by Coppersafe. In this picture, you will see the left site. This was how it started, with an open sore on his skin. Today, I noticed that the whole right side had peeled about an inch big. The fish is about 4-5 inches. You can see it at the top right.

Now, what should I do? He's in a 5 gallon quarantine bucket with 82 degrees warmth. I haven't changed water in 5 days as well because I read conditioner clears out Coppersafe. PLEASE help.

I have:
Coppersafe (coming in the mail in about 6 hours, I ran out)
Melafix
Nox-Ich
Water Conditioner
Aquarium Salt (I don't like to use this though)

keep well aerated temp to 84 aquarium salt. Meds are overrated if you keep tank clean and water warm. It should heal up pretty quick.
Is the fish still eating?

Good advice. Stop dumping meds all over the fish, warm water with some salt and add melafix. Keep the light low and let him relax.

Hi, thanks for the tips.

- He hasn't eaten since I got him (someone gave me him 7 days ago, and he's been quarantined for 4-5 days)
- His left fin is some times clamped/stuck to his body, and some times he swims with both

Here's what I'll do:
- Raise temp to 84
- Clean water with Prime Water Conditioner daily

Here's what I need to know:
- Can I get a few more opinions on using Melafix?
- Should I use Aquarium Salt? I had an Electric Yellow Cichlid in the past that died of an open wound. I'm not sure if Salt burns the open wound or if this isn't the case underwater.

melafix and pimafix are excellent for helping fish heal. light doses of salt (not the Tablespoon per gallon that i see folks recommending all of the time), i use 1 Tablespoon for every FIVE gallons of water or less.. in the 150 gallon tank i add 1 cup of salt when it's warranted.

i used to keep salt in the tanks all of the time, and replenish it after every other water change, but i lost track and just quit replenishing it unless i had an issue that required it.

Here's a better picture. The top right--- that's a chunk 3/4th inch diameter of flesh just hanging. Underneath is just white/light pink skin.

Is it just me, or is that fish living in a bucket? lol
