so i was just looking at some aquarium stores and theres a site thats selling tiger sharks. . . i called them cause i thought it was a hoax and its true , they are selling baby tiger sharks for 2000g a pup , is that even friken legal!
Got a link? Tigers are protected in a lot of areas. Alot of people mislable small sharks as tigers. And a tiger will cost MUCH more than $2,000 if you are getting the real deal.
can you send me that link. or just post it up. I would like to see it
A contact of mine can get tiger sharks from Hawaii and they are a lot more than 2k. A four foot shark would run closer to 20k. There is a pretty cool article in the shark supplement about keeping them if anybody is interested.
jsut a quick question , if carpet sharks are meant for glide across the sea floor, how come there bellys are so soft? like during the day he gets a brownish redish belly but at night it goes away?
As far as I know only the furry ones that live on land. CB tiger sharks for sale is a joke. Some one is just miss labeling some other kind of shark. Even the CB leopards are a bit of a stretch
Yeah, NOBODY has ever captive bred tiger sharks... most places can't even keep them long term. I only know of 3 places in the US that have had any luck at all keeping them (even short term).
It's got to be something mislabled or a REALLY bad attempt at a scam.
i called the place and i was like , the tiger sharks you guys are selling . . is it the one im thinking of. and they were like yep . . i wanted to call him a ******* idiot ,
This is not G. cuvier (using the Latin name rather than 'the one I'm thinking of' could help avoid confusion in dealing with animals in the future). There are a couple species sold as 'Tiger Shark', particularly outside the US... which this dealer is. The Leopard Shark is also questionable; it could be S. fasciatum/varium or T. semifasciata, though captive born is unlikely to impossible in either case. As Turbo and others have said, they are available, and actually do quite well in captivity with proper conditions (ie, a tank with more displacement than your house) but they've never been captive bred (nor is whatever species this guy is selling in all likelihood) and they cost well better than $2k (the $20 figure above sounds right) and would require a massive system even for a pup on a temporary basis. Sand Tigers popped into my head, but given the other contents of this list (not a single requiem shark) I'm guessing it's some type of carpet/cat shark.
I emailed them asking for clarification and a pic... will post results when I get them.
