Hey I run a EMP 400 on my tank - love the filter Hate the noise - I was thinkn of getting an AC 110 to replace it - question is how loud do the Ac 110's run ? I know its a HOB so its not 100% silent but compared to the Emp how is it ? anybody have both or have had both at some time to remember a comparison of the noise they make - the AC would be nice for the extra 100 GPH alone but less noise would have me sold

I'd give the edge to the AC on being quiet. Emperor's always seem to end up being pretty noisy......both of mine have been moved out to the garage tanks because of the noise lol.

All I have to say here is that emp 400 is louder than Billy Mays with a brand new box of oxiclean.
I have been running AC110's for a little more than a decade now..........I have two running on A 125g with a DIY wet/dry..........The AC's are compact , simple, and not noisy................I actually have used three as mechanical filtration on a 8 foot 180, that lasted for a awhile, with no problems..........
I run 12 aquaclears and 6 emperors on my fish tanks. Mine are quiet. Sometimes you do have to play with the emperor to silence it a bit after cleaning the filter, but if done right, all you should hear is the water flow. So with that said, on quietness, I would have to give the nod to the AC.
I have 3 emperor 400s running on my tank in my bedroom and it doesn't bother me. I guess the AC 110 is a little bit quieter but not much really...

The ac110 forsure is way quiter then the emp 400.. But like he said if you abuse it that it will start making noise but if that happens just take apart the motor and clean it Out and it will be silent once again!
