hey guys, just bought a 26 gallon bowfront. I bought the Emperor 280 which is good for up to 50 gallons, but now I am contemplating on getting the 400 instead since I know it will fit.

What are you recommendations? Stick with the 280? or spend the extra money and get the 400 to be safer?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Id only upgrade the filter if youre planning on upgrading the tank at some point. the filter you have now will be fine as theres not much you can put in a 26gal that would need that much excess filtering.

I say go for the 400, but I always go for more filtration than I need.

Actually if it were me I'd figure out how to fit 2 filters on there.
Two slightly smaller filters is better than one big filter IMO (though I'd do 2 bigger filters if I could wedge them on there :D ), because if one fails when you are not around to fix it then you at least have some filtration.

i personally would go with the 400 and add a sponge filter. The sponge filters are great backup, and if the power goes out you can hook a battery powered airpump to it and keep the tank filtered.

:iagree:

I just like 2 powerfilters because then if one fails while I'm gone there's still water turnover. Of course that can also be accomplished with a powerhead, or a bubble wand/stone.

I think the 280 is great for your tank. If you are willing to get the 400, get it. I own 2 of them. So far the best filter I have like, but are a pain in the butt to clean compared to other filters.

but thats just me probably
or better yet an AC80
:D

I'd go with the 400. I had a 400 on a 20g once...It was always sparkling clean.
