hi all, i recently purchased the Emperor 280 with Bio Wheel. i have not used these types of filters for some time and decided to get it for my sons tank. anyways, i just installed it and was wondering if any of you guys have had problems with these filters. the problem that im having is noise. very loud. as if there was sand in the impeller. well, the tank is empty so i know there is no debris in the filter. i have taken the filter apart to make sure that is was free of obstruction. still i hear the noise. is there a break in period for this filter. i have never had a problem with noise with any other filter. please post your thoughts.

Rod ps here is a picture of what i got

i run a emp 280 ive never had a problem with noise jus clogging mine sounds the same as when it was new

hmmmm...i just hooked mine up. maybe 2 hours ago. and there is noise. is your completely quite???

i run the same thing and its always been quiet. there might be air stuck by the impeller, try tapping it a little see if it changes.

mine is silent. it could be that the impeller is not seated correctly.

I have a 280 on my 45 hex and it makes a little noise. I would just take it back and if a new one is the same then its just the filter.

I have 2 400's and 2 280's; never really had problems with noise.

Maybe exchange the one you got.

i tak to mops and marineland staff via email. if problem is not resolved i will take it back

I have 2 280's and 3 400's and the only time they make noise is when they are refilling after a water change. If its making noise that mean something is rubbing onthe impeller. Or there is air trapped in the impeller cavity.
