EMPEROR 280 questions *PICS*

Hi
I just bought a new 29 gallon off of craigslist
What was included was lighting.. heater.. and emperor 280 filter (pic 1)
The only media included is Carbon (pic 2)
there is room for one more slot for media
what should i include?
also is there anyhting im missing?

You are missing your bio-wheel. And you are missing the media tray. The bio-wheel goes infront of the spray bar. And you can get a new one at any major lfs. The media tray is a gray plastic 2-peice tray that goes inthe second slot behind the blue filter. Most people use it to hold more bio media like bio-max,etc,. You can get another one of them off of ebay or do a general search for emperor 280 replacment parts.-------------------------Make sure it works before going thru all of this

alright.. i have the media tray... i forgot to include it in the picuture... sorry
so if i go to my LFS tomorrow... i should go pick up what exactly in terms of media?

Upon my second glance it looks like you are missing your inlet piping as well. With all that missing I would just get another one. You can find them one ebay for around 30bucks and I would even upgrade to the emperor 400 for a 29g.

Ok good the inlet tube is that long J shaped rectangular pipe thet feeds the water to the filter. So you only need a bio wheel and some media for the basket to complete the filter. IMO the bio-wheel is what sets this filter apart from the others. So I would get that definetly. And for media you can get any type of small bio-media. I use bio-max brand bio-media but just about any of the name brand bio-media will be better than nothing.

I had a penguin 200 on my 29, which is pretty much the same basic design - the media looks the same, got the biowheel, etc.

On it, there are slots to fit 2 of those filter cartridge things. So you could use two of them, or put something else in the extra space. Filter floss, ceramic biomedia, etc.


this is a biowheel. It goes on the front where the water flows down into the tank.
