My tank was looking cloudy so i thought maybe it was time to clean the filter

cleaned it up, put it back in... and now it is making a god awful noise.

took it apart again today... and it wouldn't suck water. after playing with it for 30mins, saw that the impellor wasn't spinning. took it out put it in and still wouldn't spin. if i would just "drop" it in so it woudl go into the whole lightly... it spun, sucks water, but now makes the terrible noise again.

its only about 7 months old.

do i need a new impellor or is something else up?

thank you

the hole where you put the impellor is dirty, mine did the same when i put dirty sand in my tank.

Hey, I'm having this exact same problem with my emperor 400! I think I'm going to order a new impellor and see if that is the problem. Yes, it is very noisy, isn't it?

I had the same problem with my emp. The little white brush that comes with it , use it to clean the hole where the impellor sits. When you assemble the the filter just let the housing that controls the flow rate settle on its own and it should work. If not you may need a new impellor. The emp400 that I have does make noise but it's been running for 3yrs and if it goes out im gonna get another one because they're good for use as a backup.
