i'm looking 2 get another filter for my over stocked 55g long tank i all ready have a an emperor 400 and was looking at getting another one when i found the penguin 350b they both filter up 2 80 gallons of water but the 350b is about 20dollars cheaper  so should i spend the extra money or is it not realy worth it any insite would be help full my tank has alot of guppies, 12tiger barbs 5corris and 16neons 2 small pelcos 1 large angle 1large gourami :headbang2

From their website they post the 350 up to a 75g tank, the box it comes in states 70gallon though. The surface area of the biowheels on the 400 is much larger 277 sq in vs. 220 sq in. As a secondary filter I think the 350 would be fine and is a better value at 27.99 opposed to 39.99 for the emp.

If your tank is over stocked, get a bigger one. I use the AC brand of filter myself, I would recommend a AC 300.

where did you find it for that price!? thank you

I have the 400 on a 75 gallon and the 350 on a 46 gallon.
Both are amazing filters. The 46 gallon is always crystal clear.
But, (it's a big but) the 350 is a hundred times louder that the 400.

The bio-wheels on the 350 make a very loud gurgling noise, where as the noise from the bio-wheels on the 400 is barely audible.

All that being said, I'd buy an AC brand filter in a second, because the filter inserts for the 400 and 350 are expensive and harder to make your self. Also the AC brand filters are supposed to be more quiet.

The 400 cartridge is twice as thick and is much taller and beefier than the 350 I have both. I replaced my disposable cartrideges with the super cartridges that never need to be replaced only the carbon traps in them. I'll get some pics later to compare the sizes as bderick said the 400 has much more surface area so will be much better at filtration, but the 350 does the same gph and is cheaper its all up to you. Do you want adjustable flow rate and more surface area...or constant flow rate a liiiitttle bit less SA and 20 bucks less and drsfosterandsmith has them for 30 bucks I think.

im gonna go with another 400 i all ready have one and i can get 4 packs of filters for $10 and i rince my filters out every week when i do water changes so i dont burn throw 2 many thanks for the info
