Everyone, my emperor 400 quit working when i turned it off to clean the glass. The water level didn't change, etc. It was off for all of 5 minutes and won't restart.

Now when I plug it in nothing happens. It seems like the motor is shot. I removed the impeler and it didn't help.

Any suggestions on how to get the motor working?

If its together with water in the filter jiggle the impeller manifold up and down. If you hear the impeller rattle like its spinning its just a matter of messing with it a bit and itll go.

Clean the impeller

When I plug it in without the impeller in there then the motor doesn't turn on. It seems like the motor is toast?

If there is no noise when you plug it in then the motor is toast. Make sure you put your bio wheels and whatever media you have in the tank water to keep the bacteria alive.

Can you replace the motor or is the whole filter junk?

This is likely a dumb qustion but did you try a different outlet?

If there is no noise with the impeller off of the motor then its OK.
I had this happen various times and without the impeller on the motor, you wont hear anything. However, once you put the impeller on it, it should spin.

Try cleaning the impeller or replacing it. Im not to sure you should be messing with the motor too much as most of them say they are "unrepairable", Order a new one or buy a new filter if thats the case.

Everyone, I tried different outlets, etc and nothing was working.

I stripped it as far as I dared and cleaned everything I could, tried it one last time and behold it worked. Not sure what was wrong but it's working now :)

Thanks for the help!!
