Hey guys,

Question on the SUperCartridge SC6 Refills. I have read here that people just rinse and re-use the wastetrap refills, but doesnt carbon die out after a few weeks? I thought carbon had to be replaced every few weeks.

Am I missing something here? What exactly do the wastetrap carbon sheets do? Can something else go in there in its place?

Thanks for the help, as I know this is the place to go!

I attached a link to the product if anyone didnt know what it is.

Carbon is not needed ever. So just cut the bottom of the cartridge and pour it out. I have been spray cleaning my cartridges for a few years now. I have 4 emp 400's and have never bought a single cartridge. I do not need any bio-bacteria on the cartridge so I use the shower jet sprayer to clean them like new.

Ever ? I like it for its water polishing qualities and absorbing meds. But I guess it would be annoying to have crap quality carbon stuck in my cartridges. (I run AC110's and eheim and fluval canisters) But I keep a top fin 60 around in case I want to run carbon I just throw some matrix carbon in the bags and bam sparkling clean water. :headbang2

the super cartridges come with carbon impregnated filter mat, there is no way to remove the carbon and leave the mat. i buy foam from walmart and cut it to fit into the super cartridges. its very effective, cheap, and reusable.

Well I say ever only because anything you can do with carbon, you can do with a nice big water change. And most meds say to do a water change after use anyway. And you can't get clearer water than from the tap. Atleast i hope people's tap is clearer than a tanks water.;)
