I was wondering if yall use the inserts or make your own if so how, other than using the gray ones that come with it.(it's getting expensive)

I buy this, pet stores like Petco/smart usually have it as well, and cut it to size. Works great and you can wash it easily so you can reuse it.

Pretty much any filter can use that stuff. I even roll it up and use it as a water polisher with my power head.

the great thing about the emp 400 is you can stuff it with what ever you want. YOU (almost) CANT GO WRONG. (but the media should be porus)
