I could be wrong, but I would guess it is an Emperor (Maruloides)
The markings on the body look very different to my Marulius (giant) I have just got.

Here is a pic of my "Giant" who is at about 3ish inches in the picture. (now is at about 4-5")

It is an 'Emperor' variant I forgot its scientific name. I have seen a stock here, this species does not have the 'eyespot' as you would see on the common Emperor Snakehead.

K thanks, he doesn't have an eyespot though.

that is an emperor (marulioides) and I thought giant was reserved for micropeltes? marulia deserves it equally its not that but when I think giant the picture of a micro comes to my mind..

I have always known Marulius as "Giant" snakehead.
This is why common names are a real pain in arse.
Scientific names should be used.

hmm.. you are absolutely right.. but just for the sake of it, type "giant snakehead" on google.. (not trying to prove I'm right, more like proving common names are shisse).. then you type emperor sh and you will find a very nice mix of marulia and marulioides.. =/

After looking at some pics I believe that it is a juvie channa melanoptera. Cause it has no eyespot. Is there care the same as a marulioides?
