I currently have a Marineland and it seems to be doing ok on my 45 gallon. I just want to up the power(gph). Anyone have better experience with the Emperor?

I might also add a HOB to the 120. It is running 2 XP3's.

A Marineland what?

Emperors are made by Marineland as are several other models.

With the Emps you have a little more filtration but there is also added maintainence. If you are looking to add a HOB to the 120 which is alredy running two xp3s I would recommend an AC110, just for mechanical filtration. I have two AC110s on my 180g that are strictly for mechanical filtration, which I rinse the sponges once a week, and this does a get job of removing the floaties.

O yea, my bad guys. I guess what I'm really asking is what's the difference between the Penguin and the Emperor? They both are made by Marineland. Thanks for the responses! I didn't look close enough!

My EMPs and Penguins both work fine. The main difference I see in the emperors is that they're spraybar driven and have a higher flow rate.
Other than that there's not a huge difference, I like them both.

Emperor works great. Sometimes though, when you get ready to prime them...they are a pain in the ass...thats only happened with two of the ones I own, been using aquaclear more...

Emporers are better built but cost a little more. Penguins tend to get noisy with time. The pickup tube for the smaller penguins also tends to clog with growth because of their smaller size and will need to be cleaned about every three or four months.
