hey everyone. i was thinking of getting an emperor scorpion. and i have no idea what they need so any info you could give me would be awesome. i want to make sure i know what they need before i deiced to get one. thanks

Simple.
for a full grown adult you will need
a 5-10 gallon tank or container.

Substrate is about 3 inches of coconut fiber soil like bed-a-beast or ecoearth.
Emps come from humid forests in southern africa so the humidity needs to be around 60-75%.Temps should be 80-85 degrees on the warm side and 75-80 on the cool side. And you need a water dish. Also you need to privide hiding places on both sides of the tank.Peat moss is good for keeping up the humidity.

ok, as for handling, Emps can be pretty agressive but are usually pretty docile, you CAN handle them but if you do, you can be stung and it will be similar to a bee sting. However if yours is really fast and aggressive you may not want to hold it :D

Just remenbar that if you happen to be alergic to the sting something nasty can happen. I think scorps are best kept as stricly hands of pets and you should keep a nice pair of 12 inch twezzers to pick them up by the tail or better yet, simply to guide them to whatever you want;)

I have 2 in a 10 gallon terrarium. We decided to do a false bottom setup with live plants. I used an under gravel filter with one uplift tube. I placed the live plants on the filter in the pots they came in, poured gravel around them and put coco fiber (forest bedding, Eco earth etc..) and placed large rocks at the base of the plants to keep the emperors from digging them up. On one side we have a UTH on the side for heat and a moonlight incandescent bulb that stays on all the time on the warm end. On the cool end we have a CFL to provide the light for the plants. Everything is on a timer. Temps on the warm end is about 82 degrees the cool end about 75. The humidity is about 75%. When I need to water the plants I pour it in the uplift tube and the plants and the coco fiber soak it up from the bottom. We also have two cork bark hides and a water dish. Her are pictures when we just started up. Now it has filled in a bit more with the plants. PS it is good to have the 12" tweezers like coura suggested. I don't pick them up, but hubby does once in while. Most of the time they go on their own marry way.
