Hi, grabbed this little fishy that was alone in a tank of juvi micropeltes and Marulius.

He was being sold as "Royal Toman". The sales assistant says he believes it's from Malaysia (though he does make a lot of crap up)

I am pretty sure it is a Maruloides. It looks similar to my juvi Marulius, but lacks a strong eye on the tail. (kinda has one, but very feint and not orange) It also lacks the vertical blacl line through the eye of my marulius, and mouth shape is a little different.

He is at under 3".

(sorry the pic isnt to clear, he is in the tank now, but very shy.)

yes , thats a juvenile emperor

I'd agree - channa maruloides, hope you have a big tank ready I haer the grrow at amazingly fast pace up till hitting 18-20 inches...

tokyogasmask, Could i ask what type of light you use in your tanks, i notice the same almost blacklight glow in all your pictures, and it really brings the color out in some species...

I'm curious because i think it could really improve both my snakehead display and my Big Mbuna cichlid display tanks...

Standard twin striplights. No black lights used.
I also use heavy amounts of kettapang leaves in all my fliters, this makes all the fish colors pop!
