Hello, im new to this forum! I recently got a 125gal tank. I currently have 2 fancy goldfish in a 55, and am looking for something to stock the new tank. I honestly don't know where to begin. I think I want something large. I like my goldfish because they get big, and are very personable. The problem is that I've been looking into possibly planting the tank, and goldfish tend to destroy plants. The only large species of fish other than Goldie's I've seen are arowana (I've fallen in love w/ them lol) but they will get too big for my tank =( Does anyone have some suggestions of fish that I could keep? (Preferably colder water and I'll probably keep it understocked) I like having fewer but larger fish that will be around for a long time.

Welcome to MFK! :)

Silk plants maybe? Fast growing stuff such as elodea will compliment the scape. All black tanks look good as well!

What?

125 gallon tropical, maybe some loaches, gouramis, plecos, cichlids.

Cold water I guess goldfish, rosy reds?
Im heavily considering goldfish ATM, I want something that will be large and impressive, but not an Oscar. I feel like im ignorant of just how many freshwater fish there are that can go in a 125.

There are a load. There are other large cichlids that make good pets

You will need a heater this isn't a cold water hobby this is tropical fish not gold fish and koi but welcome to the forum
Not everything needs a heater

Very true. Lots of so called tropical are kept too warm.
I never had a heater with my thorichthys helleri.I don't have a heater with my Rheoheros lentiginosus or otapa swordtails either.Lots of fish thrive at room temperature. Obviously this depends on species and how warm your house is.

I keep paradise fish and rosy barbs unheated in my room, 55-60f to 80f around the year
