how big of a school of clown loaches could i put in a 29 semi planted?

im looking to buy them as small as possible. and grow them to put in my bigger tanks..

but id always like a nice big school in the 29 :)

10-15 depending on how long to plan to leave them in there

A 29 gallon aquarium is to small, even as a started aquarium for clown loaches. Clown loaches grow up to 5 inches in their first year! A 70 gallon is the best starter for them, but a 55 gallon would do.

Wow, I wish mine would've grown like that. I only got from 1.5" to 4-5" in two years. For a year they were even house with discus, so lots of high quality food and frequent water changes didn't even help accelerate their growth.

Base on my experience, I think a shoal of 5-6 1.5" clown loaches would be fine in the 29 gallon for a year. I woundn't have any other fish in with them though.

How much and how often do you feed them?

do it mate get about 8-12, they'll be fine in there for ages.........you know they'll get too big eventually though!

If you want loaches for a tank that size get about 5 yoyos.

did you read the original post? he does not want to keep them there, he wants to grow them there to transfer to bigger tanks. So what good would it do him to buy yo yo loaches? They don't get big enough to go into his other tanks.

Yoyos would outgrow a 29 gallon as well. And how do I know what size tank he is planning to move them to? The point is that clown loaches should not be housed in a 29 for very long as it will stunt them. A 29 gallon would works as quarantine tank for about a month or so, but if he has a larger tank available then the clown loaches should be moved in to them as soon as possible.

I'm done debating this one, seem it's getting kinda derailed. RyanR you've got veiws from a couple different members, so you may have to research this on a little more yourself. My recommendation has been stated in post #4. If you do infact have larger tanks to move them to, then get some and you'll find out how long you can keep them there. With proper feeding and water changes there is no way your going to stunt the growth of a under 5" fish in a tank that measures 30" x 12" X 19". And I'm sure that once they are 5" you be move to the larger tank.
