Hey guys, I'm new here and need ideas for my empty 65 gallon tank.

my community fish bored my so I gave them away, I would like some interesting fish, like African and American cichlids, I have done my research, so I understand my length of tank(36x18) limits me.

i have a few ideas.
1 all male peacock hap
5-6 invividuals with some syno cats

2 all male mbuna,
7-8 individuals , some synos

3 3 harems of mbuna, 1m 2f

4 1 pair of larger Americans

5 tank of larger catfish.

please give me some suggestions for the above plans!
thanks!

Chocolates look nice, as well as severums.
would they eventually become boring as those would be the only 2 fish?
could I do some single large species (2-3) fish?

Just something I won't want to change out after 3 months.
im also still open to keeping some larger catfish, or Africans.

i like variety, but I also want some larger fish, so I need to find a happy medium.

I just recently set up a 75 with a Poly (senigal), Brown African Knife and 2 Peacock eels. It's a pretty interesting tank. Somthing a little diferent. I also have a Red Hi-fin Wolf fish that would work in a 65, all are very cool at feeding time. Everyone has their own taste as far as what they find interesting.

a 65 gallon isn't even big enough to keep even medium size cats. with a 65 gallon you want fish that will only get 6-7 inches.

Well, that would be decently large enough for me.

for Africans I'm really leaning towards an all male type setup, with peacocks/haps, or mbuna.

regarding an American tank, maybe a GT pair? I have no idea regarding Americans.

thanks!

I'd go with the African idea,gt get to big to be in a 65 they need a 75 at minimum to even try for a pair without serious risk of one getting killed.

Alright, Africans it is!

could I do an all male peacock tank with 5 individuals?

now, for aquascape, I have two theories.
do I load it up with cover for the fish?
or do I leave it open so no one fish can claim any territory?
thanks!
