Nice! At least you can save some of these rare fish. It is a shame that they are losing some of their natural habitat. What are your plans w/ breeding these guys? It would be good to keep these fish in the hobby so they don't go extinct. I believe a. Lyonsi is rare or not found in the wild, but still in the hobby.

Great job breeding these guys!

They're endemic to Cuatro Cienegas in Mexico and they're endangered in a large part due to human activity.

I know that there are some efforts (by the Mexican government - declaring it a wildlife refuge) and private organizations (buying up and preserving neighboring lands) to save this unique place.

I found this blog and other info online about efforts to preserve Cuatro Cienegas: http://cuatrocienegasbasin.blogspot.com/

I really don't know what the latest is or what organized efforts currently are going on.

Any other folks know? Interested in raining money or otherwise working to conserve this place?

Matt

I think it was this site I read that there are 2 different morfs of Minckleyi in 2 different locations. One has a larger mouth and is more of a piscavore than the other.
I was looking at Lyonsi this weekend. I would have bought some if I had the tank space.

There are two morphs but they both come from one place.....There are a couple people with breeding pairs of lyonsi that bred in the past few days....I am not aware of anyone else right now with any Minckleyi pairs in the United states..know of a guy cross the pond about it....
