I see them all the time on YouTube but never really considered getting one through all the years of fish keeping. My girlfriend just sold her ck so I took her to a local exotic petstore and they had a good size one for sale. Looking at him in person I realize how cool these guys are. I'm even thinking about getting one, but I don't know much about them, could some one enlighten me and give me some pros and cons? Thank you and ill get some pics when I can! Like I said some cool info would be awesome! I know that their will be the one guy that will say " look at a care guide dumb a**" but really the reason I ask is I think I learn more from personal experience than a page one person made that might not even know them that well. Thank you!
i also like the look of the endi and ornate if I could have some info.
and I see some with gills like axolotls, why is that?
Thank you everyone!

what specifics do you want? They are just like any bichir. not sure about pros and cons but every species is good in their own way. They just grow bigger than the upper jaw species. Approx 16 to 24 inch range depending on CB or WC.

Like I said I've never had one so I don't know what to expect. What fish do they get along with, what fish do they not? Feeding when little and adult? Do they pick on other tank mates like bully's? Do I need hides and can they go with out a hide? Are they hardy? Just stuff like that and stuff experienced keepers like about them.

I've never kept any bichirs befor, my girlfriend dose but I don't really see them much and I'm not around them enough to really observe them.

Bichirs are born with external gills and they fall off as they mature.... They're very hardy, but shouldn't be paired with plecos or other sucker mouth fish. They're pretty non aggressive but sometimes they are territorial amongst each other and they will eat anything that can fit in their mouths. They're just like any other predator fish, they love meaty diets but a varied diet is best.

Uh oh. Why cant they be with plecos??

because plecos have a tendency to suck on them and eat the slime coating

They would do that with any fish or bottom dweller if they wanted.

that's why a pleco is a bad fit for any slow moving bottom dwelling fish..... lol
