What is a round about "average" growth rate for an endi in the first year of its life starting at say 4-5". I ask because I plan to start working on that other 120g bichir tank after the holidays and that tank will be the new home for my 11" ornate and I plan to get an endi to go with him. Probably pick up the endi at the LFS where I get my bichirs and they usually have some small guys of about 5" for a good price. So just trying to plan ahead to know how fast he will grow because I don't want to run into a problem with him getting too big in the first few months because I have some 6" sens in the grow out tank at the moment so don't want them becoming lunch.

So whats a round about average for the first few months of growth for a 5" endi?

Growth rate differs between a captive bred and a wild endli. Would be helpful to know which you're referring to.

I think most of the time in polys growth rates are pretty average. The thing seems to be where the spurts stop. Like dels seem to grow about .5 to 1" a month to about 7-8" and then slows down but still continues till about 11-12 where it really slows down. So within 2years you have a 12"del. If you follow the teug thread some grew a bit faster but avg was about 1"/month to about 16-18" then drop off. So as long as its eating normal and you arent power feeding it should be about 1" per month with a slow down around 12-15". Ive only had 1 endli as a young adult and I got it at about 5" and was told at the time its fully grown. Lol
I didnt know any better. 6 months later its 14" and all my african cichlids were gone. You lived here a bit may have heard of the place was about 25years ago Farmington/Livonia area 20th century pets.....Tim. I was so mad at them lol guess I still am.

CB, I'm pretty sure that's mostly what the LFS's here deal in.
In my limited experience CBs put on length and girth really quickly till about 16” (2” a month no problem so long as water is good and food is abundant) then it levels off and slows down a lot. But this is a general statement and individual growth rates may vary :)
