A brief recap of events starting about 12 days ago. Of my 3 12" endlis the exclusively bottom dwelling one stopped eating for no appearent reason. About 5 days into the hunger strike, the endli began to float (not swim) at the surface for hours on end, then would settle at the bottom for a while before floating again, still not eating a thing. Three days ago the endli stopped floating and now usually perches on a plant or a rock about midway in the tank or rests on the bottom. While it was perching in a convenient spot I put a medium dry krill on a skewer and put the food right next to the endli's mouth. It snapped at the food and got most of it in the mouth spitting out about half a few seconds later. So it ate...just a bit. It seemed to have a hard time getting the food down the throat. I tried the same feeding trick again this morning, I even prodded the endli gently on the mouth with the krill... no luck, just swam away. Aside from not eating and not being active this endli continiues to show no signs of ill health. Its got good coloring, fins are not tattered, no spots, no swelling, nothing unusual... it just doesn't want to eat. I wonder how long these guys can survive without food? As I discussed before, I supect the endli might have swallowed some gravel, but I see no signs of anything in its gut. If any has any ideas or suggestions, I'm certainly listening.

they will go on for a while without eating. fish are like camels... except with food. they got some pretty good reserves.

They can go a looong time without eating. My new 11" lapradei pair still aren't eating, because they were used to getting goldfish. I don't feed my fish feeders anymore, and so far they're not interested in massivore or shrimp, so they haven't eaten for about two weeks now.

I've had wild laps before that didn't eat for a couple months before they finally started taking pellets.

Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like these fish don't need to eat nearly as much or as often as one would think they do. I'll post good news when when this guy starts eating again.

oh once they get comfortable they turn into pigs :D

:iagree:

My female Lap finally started eating last night, and so did my big female delhezi that hadn't eaten at all while in QT, I guess my reasoning to bump her to the big tank proved to be the right thing to do.

Oh I just thought about something else.... keep an extra close eye on the trio, and spend as much time as you can observing them and their interactions.

I suspect the floating one is getting picked on. I have an ornate that is always floating because my other ornate picks on it.
