Hey guys! I am just curious about the gills on the endli. How long they last. their exact function. Do they change size frequently? how important are they to the health of the poly? anything you guys know. I am just curious.
Not sure of the exacts of those questions, but my delhizi is past 6" and she still has her external gills. Also I have noticed they change size, when I first got my del, they were barely there, probably due to stress it retracted them. However, now they are at their largest.
The external gills are supposed to help it absorb oxygen from the water.
I just got an endli 3 days ago with external gills an b/c my
growout tank has an internal sump setup, it filters the water very well and aerates it, and now the gills are shrinking.
The gills also rectract as they mature.
hope this helps
Endlis hold on to there gills longer because they get bigger. It's about maturity and the biggest I have seen is 12" like mentioned above. I know what these gills are used for but disagree that the air in tank makes a difference. I had eight different biters all from babies and all in same tank with same air and many different results
