Ate a tankmate?

That it did. I’m not sure how many of you have seen my other thread about my small bass that I have had a lot of trouble with. I have spent over a month getting the little bass healthy and it was finally starting to eat regularly and put on some weight. I had to move the other two bass I had into the sump of my big tank because they were picking on the little one and not letting it eat. Over the past few days the little bass has really opened up and was doing great...the best it’s done since I got it. Then, I went in to feed them today and I couldn’t see the bass anywhere. After I couldn’t find it behind the tank (even though it’s well covered), my endli came out from behind the PVC pipe looking like he does in the picture. I’m so bummed. It really sucks to see all that work getting it healthy go right down the drain.

Now, the sizes were different, but I really didn’t think they were that different. The endli was about 7” and the bass was between 3-4”. Even though the bass was a bit smaller, it still looked like it was plenty big enough to not be close to being eaten.

Thanks for listening, I’m just venting...

I know the feeling a couple weeks ago I lost one of my brand new double trunk elephant nose and the other 2 lost half their tails I was pissed

So sorry to hear this. Perhaps I'm playing the devil's advocate but endlis potentially snacking on their tankmates is one *big* reason for getting bichirs off live food ASAP; they're generally more docile once they get onto pellets.

Is this the one that's been subsisting solely off wrigglers and night crawlers? Fish Tank Travis Fish Tank Travis

Thanks everyone.

I still hope to look into the tank and see it swimming around and think that I just missed it.

I’m still really surprised that the endli ended up eating the bass. I’ve watched the endli let red wigglers go because they were wiggling too much. I would have definitely thought that the whole fish flipping around would have put him off.

This is my only bichir and it is the one that has been eating red wigglers and frozen tilapia. I am going to take this opportunity to work on getting it onto pellets.
