I have a tank by the window that is bare bottom. Algae appears here and there. It shows up on the bottom unless I add gravel/sand to cover it up. Can I still keep bare bottom and put an endlicheri pile to cover up the bottom and not worry about the algae anymore? Thanks:popcorn:

Why do you keep the tank by the window?

OR you could check your water chemistry and see whatsbgoing on and then correct it

My guess would be it has less to do with water chemistry then the tank getting indirect or direct sunlight from the window. Since the tanks bare bottom I'm assuming there's no other plants to out compete the algae. To be blunt, a box of nutrient rich water sitting in sunlight is an algae farm. One of the many reasons tanks by windows is a bad idea. Also, if this is the problem ( sunlight hitting the tank) your going have temp problems, and if the tank has no cover for them Poly's dont like bright light. They may not do well.

On an upbeat note I've read several articles that have said Algae farms could be a solution to the gas crises as they are the most efficient source of ethanol that can be grown.
