hELP!!! MY my Endli seems to be losing its colors, they seem to be fading:( ..to top it off there are some white patches on the top of its head, could it be ick? If so where in the hell did it come from:confused: I dont use feeders and all its tankmates seem to be fine, its in there with some cichlids..In a bit of panic and frustration (due to the fact that Ijust lost a bichir a few days ago:cry: ).. I put it and a sen into a salt bath cause I noticed them sort of rubbing against the filter and Rocks, thinking It could help, boy was I wrong, , i must have put too much salt cause theyre scales started too bleed:eek: ..Now its gone all to hell:cry: , put them in a hospital tank with a some melafix for the bleeding, and would u believ that when I put the melafix suds started to foam on top!:( dagnbit nothing seems to be going right!!!:swear: ...:wall:

Oef that looks bad! Only thing I can think of doing is keep the water clear! Replace 20-30%% of the water every day (be shure to add conditioner) and don't feed for a while (is he been eaten well before?).

Let him chill out. With a bit of luck he will pull through. Very unwise to put him in a saltbath like that when you don't know what your doing, but I hope he pulls through and this is a lesson learned.

What did you lose your other bichir on?

It has been eating although not as much put it in a 2.5 gal. hospital tank for easier after change and treatment of melafix..I also noticed that the right eye that i was cloudy before I treated ith melafix had returned:confused: ..Its color is better now and its chillin with the sen..i gave it a little piece of shrimp but he only ate a little piece...hope it pulls through...My other ornate died because it was bitten and harrased by the endli, at least thats what I figured cos it had its right fin swollen with bite marks...has anyone else experinced this? any help would be appreciated...:)

Don't feed it any more. Let it heal properly first. Get the temp up to 28 C and just keep the water clear. That should get the endli back into shape. Not to be harsh, but it could very well not be over yet. So keep a close eye on him.

Cloudy eye is a sign of bad water or a bite mark/sqratch. The endlicheri is probably the more agressive of the two, so I don't think the ornate hurted the endli. It is possible that the endli attacked the ornate, but I would not dare to say it killed it. You should have noticed the serieus agression problems way before that. Bichir don't die easily. Also, what did you do to heal the ornate?

What cichlids do you have your endlicheri in with?

Agression between bichirs is most of the time because of lack of hiding places. Some bichir are bad tempered, so they will always bite towards the other bichir. But this, to my knowing, never led to death.

the foam on top is due to the melafix.

have you seen the cichlids harass the bichirs that could induce loss of slime coat? you don't have plecos or other algae eaters right?

im not sure what it is, but here are some thoughts, not saying thats necessarily what you have.

1) rubbing against rocks could indicate parasites. my congicus once had flukes and the reason i noticed it finally was because it was producing excess slime coat and kinda losing its color, but not in patches as in your case.

2) about the bleeding scales, is the red streaks in between scales, sorta outlining them? how extensive is it? spreading? that could be septicemia, a bacterial infection.

3) the white patches could be loss of slime coat, or infection. since you said the color seems to be coming back, it seems to be the first case.

how long have they been in the hospital tank? and is the senegal showing the same symptoms as the endli?

Lou..I Was treating the ornate with Melafix before it died, the reason i idnt notice it earlier is that its always hiding.. the cihlids are a livingstoni, a red hump they never bothered the bichirs...

infblue...they dont have the same white patches and the sen.'s color is fine...wouldnt fluke affect the whole tank? and yes I dont have a pleco to suck it slime coat and the first cloud eye bout was brought about by a vicious Venustus which i have now transferred to a new tank...all the other cichlids dont bother the bichirs even at feeding time...

i don't necessarily mean that yours have flukes, cause if there are you can see them on the bichirs. and from what i can remember when it happened to my tank before, it only affected the bichirs...my aro and other fish at the time were fine.

Are bichirs more susceptible to flukes? come to think of it all this started when i put some liquid fert in my tank for the plants, clouded up the water and all the Sh*T started could it have had a hand in this?
