I jus got my new bichirs and they are only a few inches. My question is that that they are getting ALOT of food but I never have seen them eat. They both look healthy and swim around fine. any suggestions?

i used to own a delhezi! it would only eat frozen food. also without knowing your experience in fish keeping im hoping you aint leaving the food they dont eat in the tank? it will pollute the water.

oh and keep a tight lid on the tank these guys are the king of escape artists

i am feeding them frozen bloodworms and mysis shrimp. I feed bloodworms on both sides so the more agrresive eaters in my tank eat one side before they go to the other to eat on the bichirs side. They have a 30 min. or so chance to eat the food befoe my others get it I just never see them go for it.

y'know fish forums are full of posts from people that are worried the fish they own aint eating anything. let me assure you ive never seen a post that said "my fish died eventually as it wouldnt eat anything" ive had fish sulking on me for 3 weeks without eating a thing but you can be sure when they get hungry they WILL eat. sounds like they are getting a good diet at least.

ok thats what I thot. I dont care if I see them eat I just am worried that they mite not eat. But all sounds well now.

p.s. I also am goin to feed frozen krill so that might stimulate them

what tankmates you havce for them? do they have any food left for them to eat? They are very slow to get to their food. So I just keep bichirs with bichirs, because they can't eat with competition vs. fast eating fish.

jack dempsey, senegal bichir, pleco, and rafael cat(that I havn't seen ever) the senegal is just as slow but I always see him eat, and the jd is a pain in the ass bcuz he wont eat ANYTHING thats not from my hand and when Im done hand feeding him he retires to his cave for the rest of the nite and doesn't botrher anything so they are just competing with a senegal

forgot to add bichirs have poor eyesight so they rely on their sense of smell so they eat slowly, even if the food is right beside them, sometimes they won't even notice the food
