Hello

My endli is beating the crap out of my lapradei. Lap is having severe split tail and looks red and one of the fin got bit pretty hard where a piece of meat is kinda off.

they are the same size, and lap was just in the tank, endlie has been in there for 1 week, they are both 12"

I also have a 9" ornate, but no one bother him.

What should I do?

I have the exact same problem. The thing you can do is create more hinding places or take out all the hiding places. That way they won't be any fights about the hiding places and the agression will come down.

Question, my lap has severe tail split and redding, i am adding melafix now. Lap wont eat at the moment.. I am not sure if they will work things out. Has any one had experience with bichir killing another bichir over territorial issue? or they just dont like each other?

ok, the lap has lost aboutalmost 1/3 of his tail.

I am frustrated at this situation now.. dont know what to do.

If it has gone that far already, I would place a divider between the two, or better yet remove the lapradie and put in a seperate hospital tank, and continue treating.

I have had similar incidents like this happen to me before in the past, most of them ending up with an unfortunate poly death (usually the poly being picked on). :(

If I were in your shoes, I would first off, medicate, treat, and nourish your lapradie back to health... during this time, observe your endly and ornate in your main tank. Check to see if there are any conflicts or quarrels between the two. If there is, monitor and see which one of the two is the aggressor. If it happens to be the endly again, (depending how bad it's attitude or tolerance level is?) i would consider removing it from the tank. Or... also you can try adding a few more poly specimans to the tank, which will allow the aggression level to be equally spread amongst them all. Hopefully to lessen the stress on the one that is being 'singled-out' .

But, first thing is first tho... seperate and tend to your lapradie first. Hopefully the damage on it's tail is not permanent yet? Medicate and treat. GL! :)

i agree, treat the lap ack to full health, thats your first job. the idea about getting some more polys is good if you can get them in the tank but you said you did also have a ornate. i think your best bet is to put in more hides, or take them all out.

you could either add more hiding spots, or add in another fish. you can also isolate the endli for a couple of days.

ok, lap is out today, taking it to a lfs for treatment.

weird thing is that the ornate and endly get along very well...

I will see if the lap can recover, he is really badly beat up.

Thanks guys.

I would do the reverse .. about a month ago i have 2 endi's put in the same tank together and one is beating up the other with torn bloody tails and fins ... i took the injured out and treated him back to decent shape ... threw him back into the big tank ... got beat up again .. took the agressor out for about 2 weeks ... the beatup endi healed and familiar with the tank and tank mates ... he also learned to swim away when being too close to tank mate ... put the agressor back into big tank ... he's the new guy and behaves better ... plus the beatup guy has a chance to know the tank better and run away when the agressor comes too close ... there is still occasional nipping but the aggressor is discouraged as often he missed ..

after putting the beat up guy back in and it doesn't work ... try taking your the endi out and leave the lap in ... let us know how everything goes

ok, I just put mt lap back in the tank.. endli is checking it out again, some bumping... normal stuff so far... I will see what happens tomorrow.

Endli and Ornate get along perfect for the past weeks
