Hello all.
I picked up this guy yesterday from the LFS and just wanted a litte advice? They had it listed as just endlicheri. Which I assume means endlicheri endlicheri? I paid 50 bucks for him. Wondering if I got an ok deal? Haven't ever seen one locally for sale. Hoping to grow him big fast ant put him with my monster ornates...

Nice endi, $50 bucks in my market would be a reasonable price. He should grow fast for awhile, cb Endi's often put on over an inch per month

That's about the price I'd pay in my area. Like most say as long as your happy with it the price shouldn't matter that much.

He's probably 4 inches. Was really sedentary and not interested in food for the first couple of days. Was starting to get worried. But he chowed on some chopped silverside last night. So feeling better. Yeah I know price shouldn't matter as long as u are happy with him. It's only money right?
So I have him in with a 8 inch ornate that I kind of just fell into cheap. What I am reading is the endlicheri should grow faster than the ornate? The end growth size should be similar?
Would really like to get these guys big enough to go in with my two 22 inch ornates. But really don't know how long that will take? Or even if they would mix well? The two big uns are a male and a female. They never seem to bother anyone. Anybody have any insight in to this?

I have seen 6 - 7 inch CB endlies going for 40 to 50 around here but they are usually available at the LFS. If you never see them available then you kinda have to jump on it before someone else does regardless of cost.

All bichir species should get along fine with each other as long as they are of similar size. Sometimes they will nip at each other or fight over a cave, but they are not likely to hurt each other.

I have yet to have a bichir of mine eat another bichir. or any tankmate for that matter. However, there are plenty of stories in these forums of people losing other fish to bichirs. I would feel uncomfortable with a 4 - 8 inch difference in my tank, but i tend to error on the side of caution. As long as the bigger one is well fed the endli should grow fast enough that it won't be an option to get eaten in the very near future.

I currently have 3 ornates with 3 endlis (and a few others.) The endlies were all voracious eaters from day 1 and grew an inch or so a month until about 10 inches or so and then slowed down. 1 of my ornates i never saw eat and hid in a cave for about a year. After i removed the cave she started eating like the endlies and the growth rate was very similar. I added two more ornates later and they were growing about an inch a month as well. just eyeballing my fish i think all 3 ornates are just slightly larger than my endlies but the grow rate on all these fish slowed down considerably.
