how big do a endy grow as i was thinking of getting for my 40 gal

ehh i wouldnt do an endy i would do something more like a palmas or a smaller species ann should be able to help you some more...

Well an endi might be ok for a bit if your planning a tank upgrade.Is all this in the 40 already

endis can grow bigger than 30inches! but usually don't grow bigger than 24-26 in tanks, so yeah... the 40 gal would be okay in the beginning but it will eventually outgrow it

they grow bigger as what they have said more than 24 inches, its nice to have bigger tank so it has looks of swimming space

while they can get to 30"+, you'd be hard-pressed to find one reaching 24" in aquarium...its gonna take a looooong time if at all. in fact reaching 20" is no easy task. it seems growth slows quite a bit after they hit 16"-18". still they can reach 16" or so relatively quickly, in couple years perhaps if you start with a juvenile. so yes you should upgrade the tank first before getting the endli. i would suggest something at least 30" wide in order to keep it for life, of course wider the better
