I just wanted to say how much I appreciate how well the international crowd at this site uses english. I'm a linguist by trade and I know that if you're not taught well in school, or not at all in school; that it's a daunting task to learn our language. You all use it as if were natural, and I think I'm going to try to learn some cantonese from my friend, so maybe if ya'll know any we could talk a lil hehe.

Sure! I can speak Cantonese too! It'll be fun!

For those of us in Singapore, we were taught English as our first language when we were still in school. So it's not too difficult.

I do understand cantonese but can't really speak well [smilie=oops2.gif]

One thing that I found it weird. When I post in this forum, I tends to type every word out in full instead of using short forms like what I did in other forums. Wonder why??
 
I will tell you, I dont know Cantonese, or any of the other languages from that geographic area, but I am russian and that is one TOUGH language. English is a piece of cake. I learned it in school in russia for a couple of years, not very well, but I came here and in a month was talking as if it was my own language. It's so easy and logical, Russian is a pain in the you know what.
 
It's not loke English is the hardest language to learn :) Kids in lots of nations learn English just by watching the tele. But thanx for the compiment :) :) :)
 
lol, man, that is funny. Everyone speaks russian now. Tony, you and I can start the russian club here, and I would be the only native speaker :) How difficult did you find russian?
