Hello again everyone,

Today, I noticed my 3.5 inch female festae's stomach was enlarged. Could this simply be due to over feeding? Could she be carrying eggs though there is no male festae in the tank? Or could it be caused by something else?

The fish appears to be acting normal by chasing the other fish in the tank. However, the festae appears to be hiding more than usual.

The tank is fully established and I just tested the ammonia and it said there was zero ppm, and the other fish are acting normal.

Also, I am a little concerned with my festae carrying eggs because she and my male convict (2.5-3") have been displaying odd behavior the past few weeks. She would chase him all around the tank one minute and the next they will be found swimming near/next to each other. The convict has been digging in the substrate and the festae will swim over pushing the convict out and digging a little itself before swimming away. Is there a chance that they can cross breed?

Thanks in advanced to anyone who can help.

I doubt it's eggs, however it is a possibilty. What do you feed it and how often? Sometimes it's just from overeating. Have you seen go recently? Did everything look normal? No white or stringy feces? Try not feeding it tomarrow and see if the stomach goes down. If it doesn't you can try feeding it a skinned pea, that will act as a laxative and hopfully clear the gut. Keep us posted and if you still have an issue there are other things we can try. Don't let it eat for 24 hours.

I believe that it simply ended up being that she hadn't had a movement and so her stomach became enlarged. She has been fine since. Thank you.
