1 8 inch cichlid, and 1 4 inch cichlid. Have eheim 2217, fluval 106 and 406, and a medium sponge running on air pump. Is this adequate? Should I add more circulation for this size tank? Thanks for your opinions!

That's plenty for ur tank.

Ok. Thanks. The reason I ask is a lot of guys recommend 10 cycles per hour. With this setup I am roughly 5-6.

I've seen different opinions on this. I think it's not issue of how much water is filtered but how well it's filtered.

I still think you should be fine. Any others can chime in.

You have two fish! Bio load is not much. Thats more than enough. As long as their surface skimming and flow you'll be okay. People run tanks with only sponge filters which I do too for my smaller ones. If I had a 120 I would use two sponge filters and that's it.

The eight inch fish is growing fast and a messy eater. His messes are almost the size of the ones my dog drops in the yard. Just want to make sure I am good for the long haul.

the x10 cycling is great for a tank but if you want that piece of mind go for a sump.
but its a biological media at the end of the day so its really limited to how much you can pack into sponges

Test your water periodically. That would giv3 you a good indication that your bio is functioning and large enough to convert ammonia/nitrite to nitrate
